With recent regulations restricting baiting and the shift away from feeders due to CWD concerns in states like Florida, high-quality food plots are more essential than ever. We design plots that serve two purposes: providing year-round nutrition to grow body mass and antlers, and creating 'kill plots' that position game for ethical harvesting. Strategic Plot Design
Location is just as important as the seed mix. We don't just clear squares; we design irregular shapes that utilize the landscape's natural 'pinch points' and wind direction. Our Plot Installation Process
Soil Testing & Amendment
The foundation of any crop. We test pH and nutrient levels, applying bulk lime and fertilizer to sweeten acidic forest soils before planting.
Mechanical Preparation
Using forestry mulchers to clear new openings, followed by heavy offset harrows to break the soil and sub-soilers to remove compaction.
Precision Planting
We use no-till drills for conservation planting (saving soil moisture) or conventional spreaders for small seeds. We plant tailored mixes including Clover, Oats, Wheat, Brassicas, Peas, and Lablab.
Exclusion Cages
We install browse cages in plots to monitor utilization, letting you see exactly how much forage the deer are consuming versus how much is growing.
Frequently Asked Questions About Food Plots
Do I really need to lime my plots?
Yes. Most forest soil in the Southeast is acidic (low pH). If the pH is too low, the plants cannot uptake the fertilizer you apply, essentially wasting your money. Lime corrects this and ensures sweet, palatable forage.
What is better: Annuals or Perennials?
It requires a mix. Perennials (like White Clover) offer great ROI as they last for years, but they often go dormant in summer heat. Annuals (like Corn, Soybeans, or Brassicas) provide massive tonnage for specific seasons. A good property has both.
Can you clear new plots in standing timber?
Absolutely. We use forestry mulchers to grind stumps and brush down to the ground level, instantly creating a new opening which can be limed and planted in the same season.
