EQIP Contract Implementation
The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offers substantial financial assistance to landowners for forestry improvements, but the standards are high and the paperwork is strict. Woodland Works serves as your implementation partner. We understand NRCS technical specifications and execute the practices—from prescribed burning to pollinator planting—so you pass your inspection and receive your payment.
Turning Government Contracts into Real Results
Applying for EQIP is one thing; getting the work done on time and to spec is another. Many landowners secure a contract for Longleaf restoration or Timber Stand Improvement only to struggle finding a vendor who understands the strict guidelines required for reimbursement. We bridge that gap.
Woodland Works operates as a Technical Service Provider (TSP) partner. We review your conservation plan, schedule the crews, and execute the work exactly as the District Conservationist designed it. Whether it's the specific spacing for a Longleaf pine planting or the timing of an invasive species spray, we ensure the practice is certifiable so you get paid.
What EQIP Pays For
In Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, NRCS funding is heavily focused on ecosystem health. The biggest funding pools usually target Longleaf Pine ecosystem restoration, prescribed fire, and water quality improvements. There are also specific funds for Gopher Tortoise habitat and quail management.
We help you understand these "practice codes." For example, Practice Code 338 (Prescribed Burning) or Code 666 (Forest Stand Improvement) have specific requirements for firebreaks and kill rates. By hiring a contractor who knows the codes, you avoid the risk of having a practice rejected by the field office.
How the Process Works
EQIP is a reimbursement program. You sign a contract, do the work (or hire us to do it), get it inspected, and then NRCS deposits the funds. This means you need a contractor with the financial stability to do the job upfront and the reliability to finish before the contract expires.
We handle the logistics. We source the approved seedlings, bring the equipment for site prep, and perform the work. Once finished, we provide the documentation—maps, spray records, and seedling tags—that you need to submit to your local USDA service center for payment.
Common EQIP Practices We Implement
Site Preparation & Planting (612/490)
Heavy mechanical or chemical site prep followed by planting containerized Longleaf or Loblolly pines according to conservation spacing.
Prescribed Burning (338)
Installing firebreaks and conducting controlled burns to reduce fuel loads and improve wildlife habitat.
Forest Stand Improvement (666)
Using herbicide injection (hack-and-squirt) or release spraying to remove unwanted hardwoods and invasive species from the timber stand.
Wildlife Habitat Planting (420)
Establishing pollinator strips, soft-mast orchards, or native warm-season grasses to support local wildlife populations.
EQIP FAQs
Does EQIP cover 100% of the cost?
Usually not. It is designed as a 'cost-share,' typically covering 50% to 75% of the estimated cost. However, historically underserved landowners (veterans, beginners) may qualify for higher rates (up to 90%) and advance payments.
Can I do the work myself?
Yes, but you must meet the same standards as a professional. Using proper herbicide rates, achieving specific seedling survival percentages, and installing firebreaks to spec are required. Many landowners hire us to ensure they don't fail the inspection.
How do I apply?
You must visit your local USDA Service Center and speak with the NRCS District Conservationist. We can help you identify which practices your land needs before you go, strengthening your application.
